What Type of UV Free Tanning do you offer?

Cincinnati Tan Company offers two types of UV Free Tanning: Mystic Tan and VersaSpa. Both booths offer an excellent golden tan, in under 60 seconds! Though equipment may vary by location, a Cincinnati Tan UV Free session is the quickest way to an unbelievable golden tan.

How does the UV Free Tanning work?

UV Free Tanning uses three different types of bronzers. The one that is visible when the tanner is sprayed is a cosmetic bronzer which gives the “just off the beach” look, but will wash away and should stay on the skin at least 8 hours. The DHA bronzer initially has no visible effect but will begin to react with the skin in 2-4 hours eventually replacing the cosmetic tan as it washes off. The ingredient “Eyrthulose” is a third type of slow reacting bronzer, similar to DHA, which enhances your color and extends the life of your tan.

  •  What is DHA? DHA is an acronym for Dihydroxyacetone. DHA is an ingredient derived from sugar cane, which reacts with the amine acids in your skin to create the darkening reaction or tan.
  • Is there an odor associated with DHA? Cincinnati Tan’s UV Free Tanning uses the newest technology in odor inhibitors to encapsulate the odors common to DHA products. We then blend the fragrance with DHA in a manner which allows the pleasant fragrance of raspberries and almonds to come through.
  • What is a cosmetic bronzer? The component of sunless products that gives an immediate color to the tanner for a “just off the beach” look. The ingredients used in cosmetic bronzers are similar to those used in cosmetic foundations or powder bronzers.
  • How long does it take the DHA bronzer to react with my skin? The DHA bronzer in the Mystic Tan solution will begin to activate in 2-4 hours and will replace the cosmetic color lost when they shower. Full results will develop over the next 24 hours.

                                                                                                    

Do I need to do anything special to my skin before I get a spray on tan?

Yes. In order to get the best results from a UV Free Tan, you should exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin cells.

  • When should I exfoliate? You should exfoliate prior to your sunless application. Using a mild shower get/exfoliate can be done the day of your sunless application. You should allow at least 8 hours between exfoliating and applying sunless solution for DHA to develop an effective tan.
  • What type of exfoliates should I use? For a gentle exfoliation, California Tan’s Exfoliator Scrub is an excellent cleansing exfoliate. It is also great for moisturizing, smoothing skin and revitalizing cell metabolism.

 

Will it stain my hair if I get spray in it?

No, most people will not see any affect on the color of their hair. People with light blonde, gray or platinum hair may see some discoloration from the cosmetic bronzer initially. The color will wash out with the first shower after your application. Persons with chemically treated hair, in some cases, should prevent it’s contact with the spray solution.

 

Do I use a moisturizer during tanning?

Yes. After the first shower, there are several choices of moisturizers you can use.

  • California Tan’s Extender is the preference of the spray tanners to use between sessions to prolong their tan. To extend your tan, after your spray solution is completely dry, apply California Tan’s Extender as a “top coat” to maintain your skin’s moisture. Our specially formulated moisturizer with a very light self-tanner added will enhance and extend your sunless tan.

 

How long will my sunless spray tan last?

Your natural looking UV Free Tan should last 4-5 days depending on the individual. Applying California Tan’s Extending Moisturizer will extend the life of your tan.

 

How can I prevent my tan from wearing off unevenly and looking patchy?

Daily application of California Tan’s Extending Moisturizer with light DHA bronzer to extend the look of a sunless or UV tan. The DHA bronzing boost will extend your tan even longer and reduce the appearance of uneven wear and patchiness.

  • Why is California Tan’s Extending Lotion so important? Extender is a moisturizer with light DHA bronzer to extend the look of a sunless or UV tan. This DHA bronzing boost will extend your tan even longer and reduce the appearance of uneven wear and patchiness.
  • Should I let my skin rest from spray tanning? It is recommended that after every 5 weeks of spray tanning, you let your skin rest for ten days. This allows you to completely lose your tan periodically, which eliminates patchiness or uneven areas of wear. These areas are caused by normal contact with clothing and other surfaces, which cause additional exfoliation in these areas.
  • Will I get that odd “orange” color? No –we offer a perfect blend of cosmetic bronzer to give you that “just off the beach” look and change smoothly into your DHA color that will develop later. The “orange” color, as it is sometimes called, is the result of high pH levels on the skin. Extremely pale people or those tanning for the first time with little color should be sprayed with California Tan’s Maximizer to balance the skin’s pH levels prior to their sunless application.
  • Will the color wash off in the shower? The cosmetic bronzer that is visible immediately when you are sprayed will wash off with your first shower, revealing the DHA bronze tan beneath.
  • How long should I wait before taking a shower? You should wait a minimum of 4 to 5 hours after your sunless tan application to allow to DHA bronzer sufficient time to begin its reaction with the amino acids (proteins) in your skin. For maximum DHA results, you should wait approximately 16 hours. This will create a smooth transition between the cosmetic color you will wash off and the DHA color, which has developed.
  • Can pregnant women be safely sprayed? Sunless Spray Solution is a non-toxic, food grade product that is not known to have any detrimental effects to an expectant mother. However, as you could before using any product on a pregnant person, we recommend each customer consult with their physician before tanning.
  • How dark will I get after one application? Sunless spray tanning is not a prefect science. Results will vary based on the individual’s skin type and pH balance.
